A Mohali court on Tuesday remanded druglord Jagdish Bhola, and his two other aides in four more days of police custody. The Patiala Police had sought seven-days custody to zero in on the rented accommodation in Goa which Bholla allegedly used to run a drug racket.
Bholla confessed to having a house in Goa which was used to run the illegal drug business, especially among the foreign tourists, but he is yet to reveal the address, said Public Prosecutor Kuldeep Singh. Bholla also admitted to having such an accommodation before the judge.
Kuldeep also said that due to the alleged international racket, there were some facts which threatened the integrity of the country and therefore, could not be disclosed in the court. Sarabjeet Singh alias Saba and Jagjeet Singh Chahal, too, were remanded in police custody. Police wants to probe their international links.
Advocate Vikram Chaudhary, while arguing for Chahal, said that Chahal, who was arrested following a raid at his pharmaceutical units in Baddi and Punjab, had been illegally arrested because all the controlled drugs that he had been accused of producing were duly licenced by the government. How can an ASI suddenly decide that the drugs produced at a unit are illegal and arrest an innocent person without due procedure in the wee hours? asked Chaudhary. He further argued that the law only provided for granting police custody when some specific information is expected to be revealed and not general information about their accomplices and links.
The counsel for Saba said that he was unfit and a prolonged custody with the police was only detoreating his health. My son is being framed and he is innocent, said Bholas father in the court.
