The Chandigarh Administration has decided to come up with a drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in GMCH-32. A proposal to this effect is expected to be sent to the central government for approval shortly.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court was informed about the development on Friday during the resumed hearing of a petition concerning condition of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in Punjab,Haryana and Chandigarh.
The counsel appearing for the Chandigarh Administration told the court the Administration had approved the proposal to set up the centre in GMCH-32.
However, the court has asked the Administration to consider setting up the centre, which will have over 40 beds, near the hospital (GMCH-32) and not inside its premises.
Chandigarh already has two such centres, one in Sector 16 and the other in Sector 18. The new centre is expected to focus more on rehabilitation of drug addicts.
