The director principal of the Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,Dr Raj Bahadur, will continue in the coveted post till the UPSC selects his successor.
The UT Administration had given him one months extension on March 1 which ended on Sunday. The UPSC has scheduled interviews for 13 candidates who are in the fray on April 4 and it is likely that the final name could be announced by the end of the week.
Speaking with Chandigarh Newsline,UT Home Secretary cum health secretary,Anil Kumar, said,He will continue till the interviews are done and the new DP is selected. The UPSC is expected to complete the procedure within a week and for a week it is impractical for anyone else to be put as officiating director principal, he added.
The present director principal has already completed his five-year deputation at GMCH,but was granted nine extensions prior to the one granted now by the UT Administration.
The PGI,his parent institute, had sent him several reminders, following orders from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,to join back.
Only two candidates are from outside GMCH and the remaining are in-house faculty members. These include Dr Rakesh Sehgal from parasitology and Dr S K Singh from the urology department of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
Earlier, the CAT had ordered that all the in-house candidates from the institute are also eligible for consideration against the post.
Dr Raj Bahadur,a professor in the Orthopedics Department of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) joined the post on deputation on December 1,2007.
