Dr Atul Sachdev to take charge of GMCH-32

After a long wait,finally,on Tuesday,Dr Atul Sachdev is officially going to take charge as the new director of Government Medical College and Hospital-32. Dr Raj Bahadur,the outgoing director,will re-join the Department of Orthopedics,PGIMER.

After a long wait,finally,on Tuesday,Dr Atul Sachdev is officially going to take charge as the new director of Government Medical College and Hospital-32. Dr Raj Bahadur,the outgoing director,will re-join the Department of Orthopedics,PGIMER.

Dr Atul Sachdev,is MD,DM (Gastroenterology),MAMS and Professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine,GMCH-32. He did his MD,DM in medicine and gastroenterology from PGIMER and has been on the faculty of General Medicine in the GMCH-32 from 1993. he has been awarded the membership of National Academy of Medical Sciences. He is the founder member and secretary Gastrointestinal Infection Society of India. He has several national and international publications to his credit.

The new director has a vision of producing quality doctors from the institute and good medical services to the patients. “Two things are very important for any institution to succeed,one is the medical product so called how are the students,so we should produce the quality students. The second is that we must provide good patient care. Which means we should be best in producing the quality of doctors and quality medical services,” Dr Atul Sachdev said.

The education stream has to be reworked,the curriculum needs to be revised and upgraded,but that can only be done at the national level. At the institutional level,by keeping in mind the virtual goal which is nation-building,one can improve the standards.

The outgoing director,Dr Raj Bahadur,while congratulating and welcoming his successor,said,“He is among those people who are very close to me. He is a refined,moderated and sophisticated person. By virtue of his style and moderation I am sure that he will take the institute ahead.”

As a director,there will be two most important challenges in front of him,one is the issue of contractual employees and second is the appointment of super-specialists in various departments.
