The husband and mother-in-law of a woman,who were booked for dowry death by the Government Railway Police (GRP),Chandigarh,on November 22 have been reported absconding.
Rajat Malhotra (husband of the deceased) and Parveen (his mother),were booked for dowry death after Poojas (the deceased) body was found by Manimajra police on November 21 at Modern Housing Complex railway crossing.
The mother and relatives of the deceased had alleged that her in-laws repeatedly harassed her. At 8.30 pm on November 21,Chandigarh police was informed about the body through a call. On reaching the spot,the police had identified the deceased as Pooja Malhotra. After this,a call was made to Rajat and the body taken to a civil hospital in Panchkula. Poojas parents and relatives were also called from Banga,Nawanshahr in Punjab.
On reaching Chandigarh,Poojas relatives complained that her in-laws harassed her. The Manimajra police noted the complaint and told her mother to file a complainant with the GRP as the crime spot fell under its jurisdiction. The GRP had then lodged a case of cruelty and dowry death against the husband and the mother-in-law.
