Making a house essentially requires the use of hard materials. But,in the end,a softening effect has to be given. This is where the role of plants is important. The garden has to be extended upwards, towards the sky. A lawn can be developed on ground floor and one can use elements such as pots, shrubs, trees and climbers to add green in various parts of the house. In case of areas where there is no scope for plants, use baskets to liven up the area. See the accompanying picture. The colourful display takes the eyes away from grills.
In fact, the grills give a frame effect.
I had planted portulaca in pots. Somehow, some of the plants died and the pot seems to have been partially filled. I cant get more plants in it,while those which are there have grown to about a foot long. What should I do?
Cut the portulacas in half and plant the cut part in the same pot. Keep the pot soil moist and it will develop roots in no time.
I saw Golden Shower,a beautiful orange flowering climber,a few days back, and I want to plant it in my backyard. However, there are two grown up mango trees already in the same area that give shade. Will it be possible to plant it there?
Golden Shower needs plenty of sun to flower. In the shade, you can plant clerodendron that also bears flowers during the period, coinciding with Golden Shower.
Please tell me how to water peaches. I have two grown up plants that are in good bearing.
Now that the weather has warmed up,the watering frequency should be with four days interval.
I have a jamun tree outside my house which is about five years old. It has not borne fruits yet. How long will the tree take to come into bearing?
It should bear fruits soon, maybe in a year or so. In case of seedling trees, they may take anything between five to eight years. In case of budded trees, the bearing starts sometime in the fourth year.
