Every year gardeners introduce flowers or indoor plants which are placed in the ‘Flower Show’ with pride by the owners. The last few years,ranunculus has been the new introduction. Once the pride of gardens in the hills,now gardeners in the city have perfected the art of raising ranunculus in the plains. This winter annual flowers in the month of February-March. It comes in many colours,including red,yellow,orange,a mix of the two colours,sky blue and a mix of sky blue and white. It’s too late to plant this now,but the purpose is to let gardeners know about it and include it in their gardening plan next year.

All the leaves of my euphorbia plants have fallen,though there are a few red flowers at the terminals. Is my plant dying? If so,how can I save it?

No,it’s not dying. Due to certain kinds of stress,euphorbia sheds its leaves,but these will soon re-grow. The plant is very hardy otherwise. However,don’t give it excess water. It may rot in that case.

I want to plant one climber in my garden but the area is semi-shady. What climber do you suggest?

In a semi-shade area you can plant clerodendron splendens vine. It bears red flowers in clusters in February.

I want to transplant duranta from my pot to the soil. Can I do it now and will it survive transplanting?

Yes,you can do the transplanting now and the plant will survive. It’s a very hardy plant.

There are aphids on my petunia. What should I spray. This is the last leg of winter,will it be useful to spray the petunia at this stage?

Yes,you should spray the plants with rogor,dissolved in one millilitre to a litre of water. It will help,as the petunias last longer and you can still enjoy the blooms till the middle of April.
