Double delight for Hassan,Manu in carrom

Mohammed Hassan and Manu Gupta proudly flaunted their respective medals after emerging triumphant in two categories each in the 15th St Stephen's carrom ranking tournament at the St Stephen's School,Sector 45,on Monday.

Mohammed Hassan and Manu Gupta proudly flaunted their respective medals after emerging triumphant in two categories each in the 15th St Stephen’s carrom ranking tournament at the St Stephen’s School,Sector 45,on Monday. Hassan won the boy’s junior singles and the men’s singles titles while Manu,who had yesterday won the sub-junior girl’s singles title,added the girl’s junior singles title to her kitty.

Earlier,Mohammad Hassan gave a strong performance to beat seasoned campaigner Gagandeep in two straight games by 23-11,22-19,to claim the men’s singles title. Farheen,meanwhile,defeated her younger sister Tuba 25-17,15-24,21-10,to claim the women’s singles title. In the junior boy’s singles final,Mohammad Hassan defeated his younger brother Aarish to clinch the title. Similarly,Manu Gupta defeated Gulshan to bag her second title of the tournament in the form of the junior singles title. Sahibpreet Singh won the boy’s sub-junior singles title by defeating Yishu Sharma 2-21,18-7,12-5.

Chess meet from August 4

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise Under-9 and Under-19 Open and Girls Chess Championship,at St. Xavier’s School,Sector 44,Chandigarh,on August 4 and 5. Two boys and two girls in each category will be selected to represent Chandigarh in the nationals to be held at Gujarat (Under-9) from October 1 to 10,and Rajasthan (Under-19) from September 5 to 14.
