Chief of Damdami Taksal and president Sant Samaj Harnam Singh Dhuma on Friday warned the Aam Adami Party (AAP) and other political leaders against using the name of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale for “petty political gains”. He said that any statement issued against Bhindranwale will not be tolerated.
“Before issuing any statement against Bhindranwale, Aam Aadmi Party leadership and others should also know about the religious history of Damdami Taksal that was founded on the principles enshrined by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the first chief of the organization was Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed,” said Dhuma.
“He said that Sant Bhindranwale was 14th descendant of this holy seat, who struggled a lot for protecting the principles of Sikhism besides interests of Punjab and laid down his life protecting the Shri Harimandir Sahib,” he added.
“If a political party vigorously takes up issues and interests of Punjab and Sikh Raj, they are wholeheartedly welcome in the state but a party like Aam Aadmi party has no concern such serious issues of State and Sikh Community,” he added. Dhuma, however, was not ready to speak on the issue of Sadbhavna rallies held by SAD.
“Today I want to speak on the issue of AAP only. I would comment on other issues when the time is right,” Dhuma told The Indian Express.
The SAD had come hard on the idea of Khalistan, its leaders and supporters during the five Sadbhavna rallies held in different parts of state in November and December. These rallies were called in answer to the Sarbat Khalsa gathering called by hardliners in Amritsar in November 10.
