A week after a maid was arrested after she stole gold ornaments and cash from her employers’ house,the Chandigarh police have arrested another domestic worker for stealing lakhs of rupees from the house were she worked.
The cops said that the maid,identified as Anita,was arrested from Inter-State Bus Terminal 17 (ISBT-17) along with her brother in law,Deepak,as the duo were planning to escape from the city.
The police said that a compliant had been lodged by Parminder Singh of Sector 36-B,Chandigarh,on May 8,stating that Rs 3,89,300 in cash was stolen from his car,which was parked in his house.
“On May 8,I parked my car in my house and locked it. I left a packet containing Rs 3,89,300 in cash and documents in my car and took the car keys along and kept them on the dining table. After an hour,when I went inside the car to go to the market,I found the packet missing. I immediately rushed to search for the packet but in vain,” Singh said in his compliant to the police.
Singh suspected that the maidservant might be involved as she did not turn up at the house. A case was registered with the Sector 36 police station and a team was formed to trace the domestic help.
“All efforts were made to trace the culprit. Raids were conducted and after an input,a raid was conducted at Inter State Bus Terminal 17 during which Anita and her accomplice Deepak alias Deepu,both residents of village Khubani,Pauri Garhwal,were arrested. On searching the bag,the stolen cash was recovered from their possession,” informed Sector 36 Station House Office (SHO) Sukbeer Singh.
“During interrogation,she confessed to the crime and also disclosed that she has stolen the cash in a well-planed conspiracy with Deepak Kumar. She had stolen the cash from the car and handed it over to Deepak at Sector 8,Chandigarh,” the SHO said.
The police said that the domestic help told them that she had stolen the money as she had a dream to construct a new house at her native village for her children.
On May 2,Chandigarh Police arrested Bana,a domestic help who had decamped with Rs 18,000 in cash and 225 grams of gold ornaments from the residence of Gurpreet Singh,a city resident,when the family had gone to Nada Sahib Gurdwara.
