Docs remove shaving kit handle,tongue cleaner,chess pieces from patient

Doctors at a private hospital in Sector 34 have performed a rare surgery on a 45-year-old resident of Sector 2,Panchkula with a history of alcohol addiction,who had swallowed a shaving kit handle,steel tongue cleaner and chess pieces were removed from his stomach and intestine with an open surgery.

Doctors at a private hospital in Sector 34 have performed a rare surgery on a 45-year-old resident of Sector 2,Panchkula with a history of alcohol addiction,who had swallowed a shaving kit handle,steel tongue cleaner and chess pieces were removed from his stomach and intestine with an open surgery.

Doctors at the hospital said that he had swallowed these articles in a fit of rage as his family had sent him to a drug de-addiction centre,where he was being kept forcefully.

He was brought to Mukat Hospital,Sector 34 on November 8 after he complained of a stomach ache. “In an x-ray exam it was confirmed that he had multiple foreign bodies in different parts of his digestive system,” said

Dr Sanjeev Bhatia,consultant,department of surgery at Mukat Hospital.

He had swallowed the articles on the same day in the morning of November 8 when he was brought to the hospital.

It was only after an endoscopy that the doctors found multiple items and foreign bodies in his stomach and intestine,which did not show up during the x-ray exam.

“These foreign bodies were removed with endoscopy but a few were left in the small and large intestine,as it was found with a c-arm,” said Dr Bhatia.

The doctor said that that he was lucky that he was brought to hospital in time. “He could have been in serious trouble,” said Dr Sanjeev Kumar,an anesthesiologist,who was part of the surgery team.
