DLSA grants Rs 2 lakh to 2 sodomy victims

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Wednesday released grants of Rs 2 lakh each to two sodomy victims, six months after the court had asked the administration to do so.

The two minor victims had moved an application before the DLSA secretary seeking compensation from the administration. It was stated in the application that the victim was from a financially unstable background and his mother was handicapped.

The court of additional district and sessions judge, Atul Kasana, had held Ravi, a resident of Sector 29, guilty of committing unnatural offence and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years on January 29. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 33,000 on the accused.

On April 18, Jaswinder Singh of Sector 29 told the police that he heard cries of children from neighbour’s house. When he reached there, two children told him that they were sodomised. Singh then caught the accused.
