A CBI court Tuesday sent suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar to judicial custody till November 20.
In a related development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is learnt to have reached out to the CBI seeking details of evidence found against Bhullar and his co-accused Kirshanu Sharda in order to initiate a probe of its own into the involvement of senior IAS, IPS officers and politicians.
Bhullar was produced in the court after his CBI custody ended. The CBI counsel informed the court that Bhullar had not been cooperating during his interrogation and had been evasive in his replies. The suspended DIG’s co-accused Kirshanu Sharda too was sent to judicial custody on Monday by the court after his CBI remand period ended.
The counsel for Bhullar made a request to the court that he be provided medicines in jail. The court asked them to approach the Chandigarh Model Jail, Burail, authorities directly.
Sources said that the ED has begun its own investigations into the disclosures made by Bhullar’s co-accused to the CBI during his remand period. Sharda is believed to have named several senior IAS and IPS officers, serving as well as retired, with whom he was involved as a middleman for various deals.
Investigations into the case have also revealed the involvement of top politicians of the state in the present government as well as the previous government, said sources.
Bhullar and Sharda had been arrested on October 16 following a complaint lodged by a businessman who alleged that a bribe had been sought by Bhullar for solving a case registered against him.
