Senior BJP leader Shanta Kumars call to make tough decisions may finally make top leaders in the party consider roping in the Himachal leader, whose support to Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal is considered crucial for BJPs return to power.
During Wednesdays meeting at Nahan – where BJP president Nitin Gadkari listened to the states top leaders at a closed door meeting – it was decided that the party will convene another meeting in New Delhi where Dhumal and Shanta will be asked to resolve their issues. Gadkari had endorsed Shantas view point about the need for unity, mutual consultations and also tough decisions
Dhumal has already hinted that he would be ready to go the extra-mile to bury the hatchet with Shanta so that the two can work in unison towards Mission Repeat 2012. On Wednesday,Shanta had raised grievances and gave reasons as to why he was reluctant to be part of the decision-taking team. Dhumal did not react on the issue.
Shanta Kumar had managed to drive home his point that there was a need for tough decisions in the party, which sources say clearly meant dropping some ministers and PSU chairmen – most of them Dhumal loyalists.
I have not said anything new at Nahan. Most of the issues I have already raised at the party forums and at Dharamshala, Shanta said when contacted in Delhi.
Party insiders say Gadkari has been holding consultations with Himachal Pradesh leaders and getting independent surveys done on the partys prospects and despite the efforts of team Nadda (BJP general secretary) to convince Shanta to come closer to Dhumal, there has not been any tangible progress.
