Dhumal says Congress a symbol of corruption

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Wednesday dismissed Congress’ charges of corruption and told the opposition to be realistic and judge its own actions in the past.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Wednesday dismissed Congress’ charges of corruption and told the opposition to be realistic and judge its own actions in the past.

Referring to the ruckus in the House,he said the Congress has created a mockery of democratic institutions.

He said the Congress had first given notices to discuss corruption issues in the Assembly and when Speaker Tulsi Ram allowed it,chose to behave indecently.

“This was clearly diversionary tactics as the Congress has become a symbol of corruption and now accuse the BJP of corruption and benami land deals. The Congress has totally failed to perform its role as opposition in Himachal Pradesh, forgetting its own corrupt deals,” he told reporters.

Quoting from official records of the previous government,Dhumal said the Congress had passed a legislation in 2006 to allow private universities in the state. The then Cabinet also decided to allot government land to a private university in Kangra district, whereas no private university has been given government land during the BJP regime .

“What wrong have we (BJP) committed in allowing private universities to enable local students to get better higher education close to their homes. Earlier, there was a mafia operating in the state, which used to register students from the state for outside private universities. This lobby seems to be behind all propaganda against opening of private universities in the state,” he said.

“Himachal is the only state in the country, which has passed a law to set up a regulatory commission, which has already become functional and the chairperson has already visited some universities,” Dhumal said.
