Dharmendra flags off Georgian car rally

The rally was flagged off by veteran actor Dharmendra Singh from Hotel Taj on Saturday morning.

The ‘Georgians’,alumni of various military schools,organised a car rally from Chandigarh to Wagah border with an aim to spread awareness about safe driving. The rally was flagged off by veteran actor Dharmendra Singh from Hotel Taj on Saturday morning.

The ‘Georgians’ have been addressing a different social issue each year. The first Georgian Rally was conducted in 2005 around the theme ‘Save the Deodar’,while the second rally was organised around the theme ‘Save the Girl Child’.

The third rally in 2007 was conducted to conserve water ‘Jal hai to Kal hai’.

Kanwarjit Manipal,President of Georgians Association (North) said,“The theme of the rally is to spread awareness about traffic rules and safe driving. About 250 people in 75 cars will leave from Chandigarh to Wagah border,Amritsar.”

Lt General (retd) BS Jaswal,Ex- Army Commander of Northern Command,said,“Georgians recall happy memories and plan what can be done for the military schools,which are the biggest nursery for providing cadets to join the Army.”

He added,“Every year we conduct a rally with different themes. This year the theme is ‘drive safe’.”
