Death of labourers: Owners of 2 mining units booked

The Sirmour police have arrested the owners of two limestone mining units for negligence after eight labourers lost their lives on Friday.

The Sirmour police have arrested the owners of two limestone mining units for negligence after eight labourers lost their lives on Friday.

Superintendent of Police P D Prasad said Vishal Bansal,owner of Vasu Chemicals Limestone Quarry,and Girish Sabharwal of Snow White Limestone Mines were arrested and booked under Sections 336 and 364 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. “Since the Sections are bailable,they were granted bail. The police are trying to find out who had allowed construction of labour shelters at such a precarious place,which was surrounded by quarried stones and could have harmed the lives of labourers any time,” he said. After accessing records of labourers,their cases for compensation from their employers would be pursued,the SP added. Eight labourers from Uttar Pradesh were buried alive on Friday night when the roof of their temporary hut caved in due to heavy rains.
