Court panel moves PCA to file complaint against EOW officials

The PCA has sent a notice to the Police Department to submit a reply on May 3.

The Chamber Construction Committee,Chandigarh District Courts,Sector 43 on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) against two officials of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of the UT Police and the Inspector General. The PCA has sent a notice to the Police Department to submit a reply on May 3.

The committee has alleged that the police department is sitting over a complaint made at the Public Window of the UT Police headquarters,Sector 9 on November 2,last year regarding embezzlement of funds by the contractor engaged in construction of the new lawyers’ chambers in Sector 43.

The two officials are Inspector Maninder Singh and SI Surinder Kumar.

Advocate Amar Singh Chahal said,“We had given a complaint to the UT Police which was forwarded to EOW. The two police officials did not do anything about our complaints. We tried to meet the IGP R P Upadhyaya but he got busy. Tired of the same,we made a complaint to PCA”.

The complaint refers to the investments made in the district court complex for construction of new chambers. Allegations were made that the amount paid till date to the contractor is Rs 14.60 crore,an excess payment of Rs 1.30 crore,while 40 per cent of the work was yet to be completed.
