FORMER CHIEF Engineer of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), Surinderpal Singh alias Pehalwan got relief after the court ordered to de-freeze his bank account after the Vigilance Bureau (VB) did not raise any objection.
Pehalwan is presently undergoing trial in a corruption case, registered against him by the VB.
Surinderpal Singh moved an application in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Monika Goyal to de-freeze his salary account in Union Bank of India’s branch at Punjab Mandi Board Mohali. He pleaded that his salary has been deposited in the account since November, 2016 and now after the registration of the present case, maintenance allowance is also being deposited in the account. Surinder Singh is lodged in jail since June, 2017.
In its reply the VB informed the court that the Saving Account is in the name of applicant Surinderpal Singh and as per the bank’s record, it was opened on December 20, 2016
“Perusal of the transaction statement of this account clearly suggests that the applicant Surinderpal Singh has been receiving his salary/dues from his department Punjab Mandi Board from December 2016 till date in this account and there is no other major noticeable deposit in this account from any other source. It is further submitted that this account was frozen during initial investigation to investigate the financial transactions of the accused,” the VB said in its reply.
The court ordered that the account pertains to Singh’s salary and the Vigilance Bureau has no objection if it is de-frozen.
Surinderpal Singh was booked by the VB on the charges of corruption, cheating and forgery and criminal intimidation in 2017.
