A local court,on Wednesday,acquitted two executive engineers accused of raping a woman last year. The court acquitted Jaswinder and Jasbeer,employed with the Punjab government,in the rape case for which a FIR was filed on March 28 last year.
The court of additional district and sessions judge,Rajesh Garg,announced its verdict after the complainant turned hostile.
Also,a sub-inspector,Ishwar Singh,was suspended and now faces a case in the court for not lodging the FIR on time with the Sector 14 police station.
The case was registered after the husband of the woman,a resident of Sector 15,lodged a complaint.
According to the complaint,the two wanted to hire the woman as domestic help at their Mohali residence. However,when she went with them they took her to a forest area in Morni and allegedly raped her.
The woman had then called her husband from the cellphone of one of the accused,following which police registered the case.
Counsel for the accused,S P S Parmar,said the woman worked at the behest of a gang and got the case registered against the two officials. He said the woman turned hostile resulting in the duo being exonerated by the court.
