The councillors of the Municipal Corporation submitted a memorandum to UT Adviser K K Sharma on Monday, demanding action against the officials whom they alleged to have disrespected the Mayor and Commissioner by walking out of the House when the two were present.

On Friday, the officials of the Municipal Corporation had walked out of a meeting of the General House claiming that they had been humiliated by the councillors. The officials had demanded repatriation to their parent states.

The memorandum submitted by the councillors said that action should be taken against the officials as per the service rules. Mayor Raj Bala Malik said that in case the officials had a problem, they could have lodged a protest with her or the Commissioner instead of walking out when the house was in session. Criticising the walkout, she said that it was not right on part of the officers to do this.

The councillors of all parties along with the nominated ones had gathered at the MC office in the afternoon for a meeting. The nominated councillors took a stronger stand than their elected counterparts and said stern action be demanded against the officials.

One of the councillors said that if the officials wanted to be repatriated, their demand should be fulfilled and councillors would support this. The councillors claimed that they were questioning the officials on anomalies in projects. A councillor told the Adviser that they were only demanding fair inquiries into issues. No inquiry in the past had yielded any result. It was also highlighted that no work had been done in the past few months while agenda items worth crores were passed.

The councillors suggested that one of the senior officials of the Administration could attend the House proceedings once every three months.

The Adviser assured the councillors that he would call a meeting of the officials shortly and discuss the issue with them. He also asked specifically about nominated councillor Surinder Bahga who was not present with the delegation and had made remarks in the House about the officials.
