Reacting to former union minister Virbhadra Singh’s statements that the graft charges against him were fabricated, the Himachal Pradesh police,on Monday, asserted that the case against the former minister was earlier being investigated by an IPS officer – who later was appointed his private secretary in the union ministry of steel – and hence Virbhadra himself could not doubt the investigators’ integrity. It said in a press release that there were no political overtones.

“It is high time that the former union minister came out of his feudal mentality, accepted the charges and faced trial with all humility and respect for the law of the land,” a release from the police headquarters said.

The Himachal Pradesh Police, the release added, was a professional organisation, which works objectively, impartially and fairly as per the law of the land. “In the particular case,in question, the investigation was conducted by the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau in a fair manner. It is absolutely wrong to say that a false case has been registered by police under the influence of the chief minister,” a police spokesman said.

The initial investigation was done in a professional manner by the SP, State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, who was later the Private Secretary to Singh when he was the union minister,he added.
