A 32-year-old man shot his mother dead in Kheri Asra village in Jhajjar district’s Bahadurgarh sub-division on Wednesday. While the deceased has been identified as Shakuntla (55),her son,Sunil aka Bittu,is absconding.

Sunil runs a real estate business in Nazafgarh area in New Delhi. His father Rai Singh is a sub-inspector with the Delhi Police and is posted at 4th Battalion at Wazirabad.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by the police,Sunil was involved in a dispute with his family over possession of a house at Nangloi in Jhajjar — this apparently led him to commit the murder.

The incident took place around 10 am when Sunil allegedly shot at his mother’s head from a point-blank range and fled from the spot. He then called his father Rai Singh on his cellphone and informed him about the murder, said police.

Rai Singh said: “Sunil called me this morning around 10.45 am and said that he has shot his mother dead. He asked me whether I will cremate her or he will have to bear the expenses of cremation. I did not believe him and thus asked the village sarpanch to go and check. Meanwhile,I also called one of my former colleagues — a retired sub-inspector — to also check. Around 30 minutes later, the sarpanch called and asked me to rush home. When I reached home,I found my wife lying in a pool of blood. My son was missing.”

The police was informed of the murder around 1.30 pm. Inspector Vijay Dahiya, the investigating officer of the case, said: “The murder was allegedly committed by Sunil with his licensed .32 bore revolver, which is also missing. When the village sarpanch reached Rai Singh’s residence,Sunil was standing at the main gate of the house. When the sarpanch asked him about his mother,Sunil said that he has murdered her. As the sarpanch went inside,Sunil sped away on his motorcycle. When Rai Singh reached his residence,he informed the police control room about the murder. The forensic experts were also called in. A case has been registered and we hope to soon nab Sunil.”

Last week,Sunil had an argument with his parents regarding the house in Nangloi and had reportedly forced them to allow him to take possession of the house.

The police are conducting raids at various places in and around Bahadurgarh and Delhi to trace Sunil.
