Cops identify gang behind Sec-34 theft

The police are said to have identified the gang which robbed a trader of Rs 2 lakh in Sector 34 late on Wednesday night by throwing chilli powder in his eyes.

The police are said to have identified the gang which robbed a trader of Rs 2 lakh in Sector 34 late on Wednesday night by throwing chilli powder in his eyes.

Sources said the same gang was behind the robbery in Panchkula three months ago where Rs 3 lakh were snatched from a trader in a similar manner.

Sources said the Inspector General of Police had shown concern about the incident and strictly ordered the station house officers and other police officers to nab the culprits as soon as possible.

The police officers said four persons,including a Sikh youth,were involved in the Panchkula incident as in the last nights.

A white Maruti car was used in both the crimes and the modus operandi was also the same.

“Our intelligence network is behind the criminals. They will be in the police net soon,” officials said.

The owner of Mochi Footwear in Sector 17 was robbed by four youths outside his house in Sector 34 last night.

Deepak Kapoor told the police he was returning home carrying a bag containing Rs 2 lakh when four youths intercepted him and threw chilli powder in his eyes.

“They tried to snatch the bag. When I tried resisted,they attacked me with a rod,” he said in his complaint.

Officials said a trader in Panchkula,running a bakery,was returning home three months ago when four youths threw chilies in his eyes and snatched away a bag containing Rs 1 lakh from him.

SSP S S Srivastava said they have identified the criminals. “They will be nabbed soon,” he claimed.
