The CIA staff of the Mohali police claimed to have arrested two members of a vehicle gang and recovered 10 vehicles of different makes worth Rs 76 lakh from their possession,on Thursday.
According to police,the accused were arrested on an anonymous tip-off. They have been identified as Ferozpur resident Angrej Singh (32) and Moga resident Pritam Singh (26). Two co-accused: Naib Singh,a resident of District Ferozepur and Iqbal Husain,a resident of Civil Line Rampur(UP) are absconding.
Addressing a press Conference,Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar,said,The preliminary investigation revealed that the accused used to sell the stolen vehicles by using fake registration numbers. The vehicles recovered from them were found to be stolen from Jalandhar,Ludhiana,Amritsar and Mohali.
The SSP added that Husain was a mastermind in tampering with the engine and chassis number of vehicles and a case of fraud and forgery and cheating had been registered against him at the Zirakpur police station. Naib Singh has also served jail term at the District Jail Ferozpur in a murder case.
