An attempt to murder a Patiala-based agriculturist was foiled in Phase-XI here on Sunday evening. One of the four assailants,who was arrested,confessed that the gang was paid Rs 50,000 by a Patiala dairy owner to kill the agriculturist,Baldev Singh.
A resident of Zarikpur village in Patiala,Singh,was outside his relative Kuljinder Singhs house in Phase-XI,when he was attacked by four assailants who first blinded him by throwing chilly powder in his eyes and later beat him up,investigating officer (IO) Harpreet Singh told Newsline.
Singh,however,fought the assailants and shouted for help,which brought his relatives and neighbours to his aid.
While three managed to flee,we caught one of the assailants, the grievously injured victim told the police.
While the arrested accused,Jasdeep Singh,has been remanded to police custody by Judicial Magistrate (Class-I) Amanpreet Singh,a manhunt has been launched to arrest other assailants,also from Patiala,and the dairy owner,the IO said. Preliminary investigations revealed that Singh and the dairy owner were involved in a property dispute,for which cases of attempt to murder were already registered. ENS
