The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has asked a major home appliances company to pay compensation to a Panchkula housewife,who was duped by being sold a sub-standard microwave oven.
The action by consumer forum came after Ravinder Kaur,a resident of Sector 21,Panchkula,on December 21,2010,registered a complaint against a local electronics store,Swastik Digi World and home appliances company Kenstar Limited,alleging that a microwave she had purchased for Rs 10,000 came with ‘manufacturing defects.
In her complaint Kaur said,even though the microwave she had purchased was replaced once,the new replacement appliance also had defects.
The replaced microwave also did not function properly and it also had some manufacturing defects. We again approached the electronics store but to no avail. They flatly refused to give us a replacement, Kaur said in her complaint.
Taking cognizance of the complaint,the coram of the consumer forum comprising Ashok Kumar Jain and S P Singh ordered the retailer as well as the manufacturer to pay compensation for deficiency in service.
The opposite parties are directed to grant a sum of Rs 5,000 as compensation for adopting unfair trade practice,causing mental agony,unnecessary harassment and financial losses to the complainant, said the consumer forum verdict.
The opposite parties are further directed to grant Rs 5,000 as costs of litigation to the complainant, it added.
The forum has also directed the manufacturer to replace the faulty microwave oven with a new one or refund the entire cost of the product.
