Construction of roads: Chandigarh civic body plans to get quality control vehicle

If things go according to plans, a quality control vehicle will check the quality of material used in the construction of roads at any spot in Chandigarh, instantly.

In a first, a Quality Control Unit with machines from Japan, America and Turkey, is likely to be set up by the civic body. Not just the MC would have a mobile van with these machines, a few equipments would be stationed at the office of civic body also where samples can be taken and tested.

The agenda of the quality control unit which is likely to cost the civic body around 54.23 lakhs would come up before the house meeting scheduled for July 29.

“This is meant to improve the quality of works carried out regularly. Higher authorities of MC Chandigarh have decided to install the quality control unit. Accordingly, equipments for maintaining quality control test are required to be procured of latest technology,” stated the agenda.

Giving details of huge amount of money being spent on roads, the Municipal Corporation found it prudent to have the quality control unit.

It was mentioned that about Rs 1,094 lakh is the expenditure incurred on the roads during the current financial year.

“Because there are certain machines which cannot be placed in a vehicle so they would be stationed at the MC office only. While others which can be easily carried would be placed in the vehicle. Any person can ask for a check of the quality of the material and the vehicle will go there,” said a senior officer.

Mayor Arun Sood said that the vehicle would help in improving the road work more efficiently. “ The agenda would come up before the house for discussion in the house meeting,” said Sood.

With this, at any place where the road is being made, a person can call for the vehcile which will instantly check the quality.
