AFTER not being invited to the political conference in Chhapar, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday went missing from party posters for the event. The Congress hoardings even had photographs of junior leaders like Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, Sanaur MLA Lal Singh apart from other prominent faces like Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Sunil Jakhar and Captain Amarinder Singh.
In Bajwa’s absence, the Congress event was dominated by supporters of his bete noire in the part, Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh. CLP leader Sunil Jakhar took centre stage and announced that Amarinder would be the next Punjab chief minister in 2017.
“Everybody knows that who is going to be the next CM of Punjab. He is none other than the Sher-E-Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh who is already giving nightmares to parties like the Akali Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party. I would request people of Punjab to stay away from AAP. It is a party which has no character, no morals,” Jakhar said.
Calling him a ‘tried and tested’ leader, Jakhar accused SAD of spreading rumors about Captain. “SAD is spreading rumors that Captain will float his own party or that he will join the BJP. There is not an iota of truth in this and they are doing it because they can see that Captain is going to dethrone them in 2017,” Jakhar said.
“Captain is the only savior of Punjab now,” said Jakhar as he and Bittu also raised the issue of compensation for cotton farmers.
