The entire Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today staged a walkout from the Assembly to lodge its protest against the truncated budget session of the Assembly, which the party alleged was convened in haste by the BJP government.
The walkout has set the tone for the session being stormy in the coming days. Today,CM Prem Kumar Dhumal instantly rejected the opposition demand for passing of vote-on-account before the Lok Sabha elections.
The issue was raised by CLP leader Vidya Stokes. She claimed that the decision to hold the budget session with just 11 sittings was highly undemocratic and unprecedented. The government, she said, had chosen to adopt short-cuts. She demanded that the previous practice be followed,in which a prolonged budget session was held to enable the opposition to participate in debates, and raise issues of public importance.
Stokes alleged that because of the limited sittings, the members will be deprived of participation in the discussions. She suggested that a simple vote-on-account be presented, and a special session be convened after the Lok sabha poll for passing the states budget.
