The Chandigarh Police has arrested the wife of a Punjab Police commando and three college students for their alleged involvement in his murder. The commando’s body was found from Bhakra canal in Karnal on Wednesday. He had gone missing last month.
Addressing a press conference, senior police officers said that the police had arrested deceased Jasbir Singh’s wife Sukhdeep Kaur who murdered the cop and threw the body in the canal.
Providing details of the case, ASP (East) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said that Sukhdeep, a Raipur Khurd resident, had filed a missing complaint regarding Jasbir Singh. She stated that her husband serving in Punjab Police was posted at Punjab Police Commando Complex, Phase II, Mohali. He left home in March and never returned. Following this, the police registered a case and started investigation.
Sidhu said during the investigation, Kaur’s role came under the scanner. Later, she confessed that she murdered her husband with the help of three persons. The police said that the three accused mentioned by Kaur were found lodged in Patiala jail in another case in January after they fired at a policeman at Zirakpur.
According to the police, Kaur was arrested on Sunday and they obtained production warrant of three persons — Sahib Singh, a Rajpura resident, Deepak and Manpreet, both residents of Patiala. “They were arrested on Tuesday after the permission of the court and their police custody up to Friday was obtained,” said Sidhu.
According to the police, Sahib Singh murdered Jasbir Singh with the help of Sukhdeep Kaur, Gurjinder Singh and Jagtar Singh. “The police then conducted a raid and arrested the duo,” the police said.
Asked how the commando was murdered, Sidhu said that the accused had mixed sleeping pills in his food and he become unconscious. “Then they took him in car and threw the body in Bhakhra canal,” he said, adding that the body was recovered on Wednesday from the Bhakhra canal near Chumar Khera in Karnal.
On the motive of the murder, the ASP said that Kaur was in touch with one Harjit Singh, a Bathinda resident, who has been working in Behrain for the last four-five years. “She wanted to marry Harjit Singh and did not tell him that she is already married,” the police said. A year ago, Kaur went to the native village of Harjit Singh, and performed roka ceremony with his photo.
“Sukhdeep Kaur wanted to get rid of Jasbir Singh and for this, she contacted Sahib Singh,” Sidhu said. “Sahib Singh demanded Rs 5 lakh from her for this. Kaur paid Rs 1 lakh as first instalment to him. He hired Gurjinder alias Neeta and Jagtar Singh alias Rinku.”
Providing details about the three accomplices, Sidhu said Sahib was a BCA Ist year student at CGC Landran while Gurjinder and Jagtar were studying engineering and hotel management at Thapar College in Patiala and CGC, Landran, respectively.
