Staying alert

Under attack from the Administration,as he alleges,H S Mamik,Director of Vivek High School,Sector 38 is exercising all possible safeguards. Hounded by the Administration,Mamik has even removed a rabbit cage to avoid further adverse action from the Administration. The Administration had acted against the school, initially, for not providing information regarding EWS seats and lately for violating building plans. “I am sitting in my school wearing a helmet. I do not know about their (Administration) next attack. They do not want me to run the school. As pointed out by the Administration,I have even removed a rabbit cage, rendering them homeless,” Mamik rued.

During the signing of the protocol between the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association and Madrid Tennis Federation, the loudest cheer came when Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who was the chief guest on the occasion, announced that Vijayant Malik- the former Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainee – would be made Inspector in the Haryana Police. This was the probably the succour that Vijayant needed after years of wait.

After the arrest of Vijay Singla, the nephew of local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal on charges of accepting bribe,mama-bhanja jokes have flooded social media. The BJP is also making the most of the opportunity with its pamphlets prepared for distribution in the city having references to the relation between mama-bhanja. A leader quipped that historically it is the bhanja who has been in trouble because of the mama. In this case the reverse has happened.

Sweat out

Usually, the Panjab University sports ground wears a deserted look this time of the season with mercury rising and humidity on the upswing. Beating the heat wave, players, from different streams, are seen practicing in the ground. Footballers, athletes, spikers, cricketers, hockey players etc,all are in action in the evenings these days at the PU ground.

The Tota brigade

Soon after the apex court commented that CBI is a “caged parrot”,the officials at the local office of the Central Bureau of Investigation have been mocking themselves. One of the officials quipped,“Soon after CBI was termed as a caged parrot by the Supreme Court,we all have changed our last names to Tota (parrot)”. When asked about his views on the comment made by the Supreme Court,he said,“It was an open secret which has been made public by the Apex court”.

Strike at will

Thefts in Panchkula have become a routine affair for thieves and embarrassingly for the police. After the late night dacoity in Sector 4 in which the gangsters struck after they carried out a recce of the area, the gang headed by a woman robbed a woman of gold jewellery at knife-point looting four gold bangles,a necklace and a gold ring from her. What is shocking is that the robbery happened at around 10.30 am when the police was carrying out a security patrol in the city to sensitise the cops on measures to control thefts. It seems the dacoits are striking at will and are not even scared when the police personnel are patrolling.

Ring-ing in laughter

She might be known for her ace make-up skills but not many would be aware that Kerala-born,Delhi-based celebrity make-up and beauty artist Ambika Pillai falters at conversing in Hindi.

At a recently held workshop for young ladies,Pillai tried her best to keep pace with her audience in English and Hindi. During the talk on hair care,Pillai advised the ladies to opt for hot oil head massage. “Pehle apni angoothi ko oil mein dip karke check kar lena (first dip your ring into the oil to check),if it’s too hot,” spoke a straight-faced Pillai as the audience broke into peals of laughter. When Pillai asked what’s so funny,a lady replied politely,“Madam, ungli dip karni hai ya angoothi?” (should we dip our finger or our rings?) Sportingly,Pillai joined in the laughter and then corrected herself.
