CONTINUING with his winning streak,wild card CLTA trainee Digvijay Pratap Singh drubbed Aditya Vashist 6-2,7-5 while another CLTA trainee Eklavya Singh defeated Avilash Mishra in an one-sided match 6-3,6-2 in the boys single’ section in the AITA Super Series tennis tournament at the CLTA courts to enter the semifinals. In other quarterfinal matches,Vikarant Dahiya got the better of Shrey Gupta in a three setter match that lasted over three hours. Digvijay will take on Vikrant in the first semifinal,on the other hand Eklavya Singh will lock horns with Dhruv Pal.
In the opening set Digvijay dominated by using his ground strokes and took the set at 6-2. In the second set Aditya Vashist made a strong come back. At 2-4 Digvijay regrouped and broke back and in the 12th game,he broke Aditya to win the set and match at 7-5. Then,Eklavya Singh defeated Avilash Mishra in an one-sided match 6-3,6-2. He will be facing Dhruv Pal who defeated Yugal Bansal in a one sided match 6-1,6-1. Vikrant defeated his doubles partner Shrey Gupta in a three setter match that lasted over three hours. Vikrant won the first set with no resistance 6-1. After that Shrey Gupta coma back strongly to take the next set at 6-2. In the final set both the players held serves till 6-6. In the tie-breaker Shrey took an early lead and reached to 4-1. After this Vikrant did not lose a point and won six points to close out the match 7-6(4).
In the Girls U-16 singles section,top seed Aarushi Kakkar moved to semi-final with a straight set win over Shreya Gulia. In other matches,Baani Singh overpowered Rubani Ahluwali 6-2,6-2 while Soha S. beat A. Dharna Mudaliar 6-4,6-3 with ease.
In the Boys U-12 singles category,S. Boopathi upset top seed Mahesh Mohapatra in a match that lasted over three hours. Both the players displayed good quality tennis. In the end left-handed Boopathi dominated the final set and bagged it 6-1. Nishant Dabas upset second seed Asav Kumar. Asav took the first set 6-4 and was leading the second set 5-2 when Kumar retired hurt. S. Saran beat Naman Sharma 6-4,7-5. Meanwhile in the Girls U-12 singles matches,Prinkle Singh thrashed Muskan 6-1,6-3 to surge ahead. In an another exciting match over three hours A. Dharna Mudaliar prevailed over Shreya Gulia 6-4,2-6,6-4. Sarah Dev won against Kiran Kalkal in one sided match 6-1,6-1. Playing in the U-16 Girls singles match,Prinkle Singh defeated Sarah Dev 4-6,6-3,6-3. This match lasted three hours 20 minutes.
