With the monsoons approaching, Sukhna Lake — one of the major tourist attractions in Chandigarh — seems to be the top most priority for UT Administration.
In this bid, the Administration has decided to clear out the weed from the lake daily until the monsoon arrives.
Chief Engineer of the Administration, Mukesh Anand said that it was very important to clear the weed from the lake as monsoons favour the growth of weed due to humidity and it is also necessary for clear water.

“ If we won’t clear the weed, water in the lake would get dirty. Besides, boating here would also become very difficult. So we have decided that our workers would keep on with the cleaning process until the monsoon arrives,” said Anand.
Around 10 workers have been deployed by the administration for cleaning the lake.
Officials said that the humid conditions in the monsoon and regular rain will facilitate the growth of weed thus making the lake dirty. Weeds have been robbing the lake of its beauty and it had become imperative for the engineering wing to clear it.
