Three youths were seriously injured after a brawl between two groups at Manakmajra village on Sunday. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Phase VI. The police started an investigation after receiving complaints from both the parties.
According to the police, two groups of youths were playing cricket at the village on Sunday but suddenly arguments took place between them over some issue which led to the clash, resulting in serious injuries to three persons. The police were yet to record statements of the injured.
The injured, as per the information available, were identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of Manakpur village, Sukhwinderpal and Anoop Kumar. Harpreet told Chandigarh Newsline that his group and Sukhwinderpal’s group were playing at their village but suddenly some of the members of Sukhwinderpal’s group started abusing them.
Harpreet said that when he objected, Sukhwinderpal, Anoop and some other persons started beating them following which he got injured. Harpreet alleged that they were attacked with rods and sticks by the other group.
The members of the other group who took Sukhwinderpal and Anoop to the Civil Hospital denied all the allegations and said that it was Harpreet who first started the quarrel and then attacked Sukhwinderpal and Anoop.
Ravi, one of Sukhwinderpal’s friends, said that Harpreet was pretending that he was beaten up but the reality was different. Ravi alleged that Harpreet got admitted to the hospital to save himself from police action.
The officials of Civil Hospital police post said that they were yet to record statements of Sukhwinderpal and Anoop as they were not in a state to speak. The police said that action would be taken after recording statements of all the injured.
