Preparations for the Rose Festival are on at full swing and the civic body has started floating tenders.

Preparations for the Rose Festival are on at full swing and the civic body has started floating tenders. The Rose Festival will be held from February 24 to 26. The forms for participation in various events will also be available with the civic body in the coming days.

The Rose Festival got off to a rocky start with the councillors objecting to the high expenditure to be incurred on the festival. The officials had prepared an agenda with an expenditure amounting to Rs 51 lakh and taken it to the House. This was met with criticism and the councillors raised objections. The allocation of funds was then brought down to Rs 34 lakh.

A committee has also been constituted under the chairmanship of the Mayor that comprises the Municipal Commissioner,additional commissioners,chief engineer and the area councillor. The councillors have also been made members of the sub-committees for the festival.

Due to the controversy over the event,the civic body had been unable to float tenders for any work. The process is now underway. A number of events like antakshari,kite flying,rose prince and princess,Miss and Mr Rose and hat making will be held. The Administration had earlier floated the tenders for the work to be undertaken by it. The Administration will be organising the events at the Leisure Valley and musical nights will be part of the festival.
