The city has witnessed its warmest December in the last five years. As per data from the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, the average recorded temperature in December 2015 was 8.5 degree Celsius. In both December 2014 and December 2013, the average recorded temperature was 7.8 degree Celsius, while in 2012, the average temperature in December was 7.5 degree Celsius.
Director of Chandigarh Meteorological Department Surinder Paul said, “The year 2015 has been one of the warmest, owing to western disturbances and extra-tropical weather conditions.”
He further said that sunny weather and absence of rainfall in December 2015 could be attributed to less fog formation and change in pattern of weathering trends. Paul added that the city was likely to witness rainfall in the first week of January, possibly on January 4 and 5.
