On the occasion of Teachers Day,the education department organised a function at Tagore Theatre,on Thursday,where city school teachers were honoured with State awards,commendation certificates and special appreciation awards. Also present at the function were Upkar Singh,DPI (S) and Ram Kumar Sharma,DEO. 12 government school teachers were honoured with the State award for their contribution to the field.
The awardees included Rakesh Sood,principal,GMHS 36,Prem Lata,principal,GMHS 23,Pawan Kumar,lecturer in automobile technology,GMSSS 23,Rajinder Singh Kamboj,Punjabi teacher,GMSSS 27,Rajinder Kumar Sharma,Social Studies teacher,GMHS 31,Rajni Taneja,Social Studies teacher,GHS 32,Sanjay Kumar,Social Studies Teacher,GMSSS 16,Kiran Ratan,Science lecturer,GMHS 38,Charanjeet Kaur,PTI,GMSSS 10,Parwinder Singh,JBT,GMSSS-MHS,Manimajra,Kapil Mohan Sood,JBT,GHS-53 and Vinod Kumar,JBT,GMSSS-MHS,Manimajra.
The state awardees,school teachers and officials of the education department,who have been felicitated by the Chandigarh Administration with State awards,were given cash prizes worth Rs 11,000 along with medals.
Meanwhile,the teachers who received commendation certificates were awarded cash prizes of Rs 5,100 each while,the special appreciation awardees were given cash prizes of Rs 3,100 each. Education Secretary VK Singh inaugurated the function and congratulated all awardees.
In this fast changing world,teachers need to equip themselves with latest electronic tools,but they should also enable students to discover their hidden talent,to develop inter-personal skills and subject matter expertise, Singh said.
Students of the Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 33 staged a Saraswati Vandana performance,while a documentary on Role of Teachers was presented by students of Government High School,Sector 53.
