City golfers improve performances

City golfers made rapid progress in the on going Usha Army Ladies golf tournament held at Secunderabad,and improved their positions.

CHANDIGARH: City golfers made rapid progress in the on going Usha Army Ladies golf tournament held at Secunderabad,and improved their positions. Amandeep Drall (81-79) was the second player after Aditi Ashok to score in the 70s on the second day and is now fourth at 160. Another city golfer,Vasundhara Thiara (91-91),was second in Category D behind Tanishka Kumar (86-86). Meanwhile,Aditi Ashok turned in a four-over 76 to move into shared lead with overnight leader Mehar Atwal. Aditi and Mehar are now at 12-over 156 and one shot ahead of third placed Gursimar Badwal (77) who is at 157. Milie Saroha (81-80) and Anisha Padukone (80-81) were tied for fifth,while Gauri Monga (82-81) is seventh. Millie Saroha and Raksha Phadke (83-81) were top-two in Category A,while Aditi and Ridhima Dilawari (86-83) were the top two in Category B. Harnemat Toor Singh (93-90) was the leader in Category C ahead of Tanrika Singh (96-91) was second.

Football tourney from June 22

CHANDIGARH: UT Futbol Campeonato,a seven-a-side football tournament would be played at the Sector 17 Football Stadium from June 22 to 24. Teams from Chandigarh,Punjab and Haryana have registered for the tournament. The tournament would be played among 32 teams daily from 7 am to 6 pm. The tournament is the brainchild of Rochan Kakar and Jayant Chaudhary,both ex-students of Saint John High School,Chandigarh,and are still pursuing their studies. The main motive behind organising this tournament is to search for young talented players so that they can be trained at the grassroot level to make them eligible to play for the country at the national and international levels. The winning teams shall be given a cash prize of Rs 15,000,Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

Niraj fashions CLDAV Cricket Academy triumph

PANCHKULA: Riding high on Niraj Dahiya’s (72 runs and 3 for 29) all-round performance,Chaman Lal DAV Cricket Academy beat Panchkula Cricket Academy by six wickets in a match played during North India Cricket Cup for U-16,at CL DAV School in Panchkula on Tuesday. Batting first,Panchkula Cricket Academy made 255 runs in 25 overs. Abhijit Sharma was in top form,as he scored impressive 102 runs. He was ably supported by Shantanu Bhardwaj,who scored useful 78 runs. From CLDAV Cricket Academy,Niraj Dahiya bowled well to take three wickets. In reply to the total,led by Yuvraj Singh’s knock of 106 runs and Niraj Dahiya’s innings of 72 runs, CLDAV Cricket Academy achieved the target in 22.4 overs,losing four wickets.

Golf camp from tomorrow

PANCHKULA: A golf camp would be conducted by the Management of Panchkula Golf Club from June 21 to 29 every day from 9 am to 10 am,on the club’s Driving Range. As the schools and colleges are closed due to summer vacations,this camp is designed for boys and girls,women and men of all ages and will give a comprehensive view about the game of golf to beginners who want to try their hands at this game. This camp will be conducted by Ajay Gujral,golf coach. A detailed curriculum will be followed: the grip,aim,alignment,stance,posture,hitting,chipping,putting,safety,etiquette and rules of golf would be taught.
