PU colleges not adhering to UGC pay norms,V-C forms panel

CHANDIGARH: The recognition of over 40 colleges in Punjab,affiliated to Panjab University (PU),may stand cancelled,due to their failure in adopting the recommended pay scheme for teachers. As per the guidelines issued by PU authorities,on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC),all affiliated colleges are supposed to provide a minimum salary of Rs 26,600 to UGC-qualified teachers. However,university officials pointed out discrepancies in the pay packages. PU Vice-Chancellor,R C Sobti has now constituted a committee headed by Dean College Development Council (DCDC)Naval Kishore to examine the issue.

One killed,several injured in accidents

CHANDIGARH: Several persons were injured while one was killed in separate road accidents on city roads in the past few days. A Manimajra resident was killed when his scooter was hit by a car near Shastri Nagar light point on Thursday.
