Police on Wednesday foiled a bid by three youth to loot residents of the city. Acting on a specific information,a police party of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) zeroed in on the three youth, all residents of Muradabad,Uttar Pardesh, and arrested them.
Rods and iron pipes were recovered from the possession of Sarfaraz (30),Chandrapal (22) and Tahir Khan (25).
The accused were arrested from the road dividing Sectors 12 A and 14,CIA officials said.
According to the police, the trio had on March 4 night, made a robbery bid at Sector 12-A by breaking the locks of a house in the area. However, during the attempt the watchman woke up and raised an alarm, forcing them to flee without any loot.
Police also said that Sarfaraz had earlier served a jail sentence of six months for robbing a house in Sector 10.
However, after his release in January,he had shifted to Muradabad, but he did not mend his ways. Instead,he made his brother,Tahir Khan, and a friend,Chandrapal,to accompany him in his robberies, officials said.
They added that the accused were earlier living at a rented accommodation in Baltana,Punjab, but had split after the arrest of Sarfraz. However, they again began to live together in Baltana. Police have begun interrogation to ascertain their involvement in other cases.
