Chirag fashions St Stephen’s victory

A hat-trick by Chirag guided St Stephen's School,Sector 45, to an easy 5-2 win over Saupin's School,Sector 32

A hat-trick by Chirag guided St Stephen’s School,Sector 45, to an easy 5-2 win over Saupin’s School,Sector 32,as the team stormed into the semi-finals of the UT Inter-School U-17 (boys) Football Tournament being organised by Chandigarh Education Department at Sports Complex,Sector 42,on Friday.

It was Saupin’s School who drew the first blood as Kanwar put the team ahead in the 23rd minute. However,just five minutes later,Teg Pratap netted the equaliser for St Stephen’s School.

Chirag put St Stephen’s-45 ahead with a neat strike in the 28th minute. He went on to score his second goal of the day in the 40th minute of the match to extend the lead 3-1.

Eight minutes later,Aryaman reduced the margin for Saupin’s School. But Chirag continued to torment the Saupin’s defenders with his shrewd moves. The forward completed his hat-trick by scoring in the 50th minute of the match. Teg Pratap made his -2 by grabbing his second goal of the day.


Earlier,goals by Akhil and Deepak guided St John’s High School to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Strawberry World School. Ekamber opened the account for Strawberry World School in the 20th minute of the match. Strawberry World School were leading by 1-0 at half-time. St John’s School forwards regrouped their energies in the second half and made constant attacks into the opposition half.

Their efforts soon paid dividends when Akhil scored the equaliser in the 40th minute of the match. Deepak then scored the winning goal for St John’s School in the 45th minute of the match.

In another match played at Government Model Senior Secondary School Ground in Sector 22,Chandigarh,the DAV Public School,Sector 8 team ended the challenge of St Xavier’s School,Sector 44,with a 3-0 win.

Rohit Thakur opened the account for the winning team in the 25th minute of the match. The team got their second goal of the match through Nitin Bhandari who bamboozled the opposition defenders before guiding the ball into the back of the net. Kamal scored the third goal for the team in the 46th minute.

In the last match of the day,Delhi Public School,Sector 40,thrashed Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 35,by 4-0. Gurkaran scored the opening goal for the winning team in the seventh minute.

Himmat then doubled the lead for DPS-40 by scoring the second goal in the 29th minute. Gurkaran scored his second goal in the 37th minute while Ritwik scored the team’s fourth goal in the 52nd minute.
