With a proposal to have a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Panjab University,a team of four delegates from the Henan province of China visited the varsity campus on Monday.
The delegation was led by Deputy Director-General,the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Henan Provincial Peoples Government,Hao Lijun. Director,the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hebi City Peoples Government,Henan,Zhao Jiayu and General Secretary of Henan Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries,Zhao Qing Shan were also a part of the delegation.
Speaking on the occasion,Hao Lijun said they have come to PU to look out the best suitable universities of India with which Henan Province could have collaboration and mutual academic co-operation,including teacher- and students-exchange programmes.
The delegates informed that there are 120 universities in the state of Henan,imparting education to 30 million students. Hao Lijun also said that both Zhengzhou University and Henan University,which are the two famous universities there,are open for collaboration for mutual exchange programmes.
In response to a query as to how Indian teachers would communicate with local Chinese faculty in the absence of the knowledge of their local language,Hao Lijun said that they would be providing translators to each one of them. However,Professor Bhandari,representative of Panjab University,said they would wait for the Chinese universities to write to PU so that hey could look into the possibilities of the collaboration.
The Chinese delegates also met Municipal Corporation Mayor Subhash Chawla to propose a declaration of Hebei and Chandigarh as the twin cities.
