The Ludhiana police on Monday arrested five city residents for allegedly posting and sharing child pornography content on social media.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that the accused were traced after the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which keeps a check on such content on the internet, had shared tipline reports on child pornography videos with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which had further shared them with Punjab Police for probe.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abhishek Sharma, 35, of Kila Mohalla, Palwinder Singh, 23, of Heera village of Koomkalan, Ajaib Singh, 30, of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Satwinder Singh, 31, and Devraj Yadav, 32, of Mohalla Hargobind Nagar. All of them have been booked under Section 67-B of Information and Technology Act and separate FIRs have been registered against them at division number 4, 6, Sadar, Koomkalan and Shimlapuri police stations of Ludhiana.
CP Sidhu said that some people share such content on their social networking accounts assuming that the police won’t be able to trace them. Sharing pornography on social networking sites is a crime. He urged teachers and parents to keep an eye and also spread awareness among children about such incidents.
