All chemists of Chandigarh will observe bandh on Friday and will assemble opposite Neelam theatre in Sector 17 at 10.30 am. They will proceed in the form of a peaceful procession to submit a memorandum to the UT Adviser and Deputy Commissioner,Chandigarh.
The chemist shops will remain closed except shops in emergency ward,GMCH-32,PGI and GMSH-16. A decision to this effect has been taken by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists against unjustified policies of the government.
Khem Gupta, president of CCA,said,The government has reduced our margin from 20% to 16% in retail and from 10% to 8% in wholesale. We want that margins should be maintained at present rates that is 20% and 10%. According to Gupta, their second demand is that a chemist who is running a shop for more than five years should be considered as experienced person to run the shop, and the decision to recruit a pharmacist should not be forced on chemists.
