Fourth seed Digvijay Pratap,who is a CHART trainee,was at his destructive best on Wednesday morning as he came up with one of his best performances in the recent times to overcome top seed Param Pun 6-0,7-5 to enter the final of the U-16 singles category of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series tennis tournament being held at the CLTA Complex,Sector 10,on Wednesday.
Digvijay completely surprised Param in the first set,as he played with aggression and played a flawless game to take the set 6-0.
Param,however,made a good recovery in the second set and won a few games on trot to put pressure on Digvijay. Digvijay,who was trailing 3-5,soon found his feet on the court again and played some aggressive ground strokes to keep Param on his feet. He eventually won the second set 7-5 to enter the final.
He will now face second seed Vikrant Dahiya,who is also a CHART trainee,in the final. Vikrant overcame the cold weather to pummel third seed Nihit Rawal to reach the final. Vikrant got off to perfect start when he easily took the first set 6-1. He was hardly bothered by Nihit in the second set also,and won 6-2.
In the girls U-16 singles semi-final,top seed Baani Singh moved into the final and conceded only one game against CLTA trainee Pious Mudgil. She will be facing third seed Tanya Batra who defeated Gurneek in the second semi-final encounter.
In the girls doubles final,Baani Singh and Seerat Pannu got the better of Pious Mudgil and Gayatri Kumaraiah 7-5,6-3 to claim the title.
