Two cracker shops were gutted when a fire broke out in Dadumajra Colony Wednesday. Nobody was injured in the incident. Crackers worth lakhs were destroyed in the fire, said the owners of the shops.

The fire started around 6.30 pm. Two fire tenders reached the spot and the blaze was controlled within an hour. Local people also helped to douse the flames.

Darshna, one of the shop owners, told Chandigarh Newsline that she was sitting in her shop when an unidentified object fell on the roof and triggered fire. According to Darshna, the fire broke out at a rapid pace and engulfed two adjoining shops within minutes.

Mamta, another shopkeeper, said that she was busy packing firecrackers when she heard explosions in the neighbouring shop. When she came outside, the fire also spread to her shop.

Shopkeeper Seema said she vacated her shop immediately after the fire started and saved most of the firecrackers in her shop by throwing them outside.

No case has been registered yet. Police said that the reason of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
