The Chandigarh tweakers,Gurinder Singh and Abhilash Singh bag 11 and seven wkts respectively against Mohali
All-rounder Gurinder Singh is having a tremendous run in the ongoing Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament for U-22. The sweltering heat has not bothered the Chandigarh cricketer,who is on a rampage,both with the bat as well as ball. Powered by his superb bowling performance (11 wickets),Chandigarh recorded an innings defeat against Mohali in a match that concluded at the Sector 16 cricket stadium on Monday. Gurinder,who bowls left-arm spin,had also scored impressive knock of 139 runs in the first innings for Chandigarh. Gurinder,who has attended India U-19 camps on few occasions showed his mettle against Mohali,scalping six and five wickets in the first and second innings respectively.
In reply to Chandigarh’s mammoth first innings total of 517 runs,Mohali team was bundled out for 272 runs in 85.2 overs. Resuming at 247 for 8,Mohali were bowled out for 272. Gurinder Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Chandigarh,as he ran through Mohali’s lower batting order. Overnight batsman Birkanwar Singh Virk was the first to go when he was caught by Veer Karan Goel off Gurinder Singh for 84 runs. He smashed 10 fours and three towering sixes. Gurinder picked up six wickets while off-spinner Abhilash Sharma bagged three wickets. Trailing by 245 runs,Mohali were forced to follow on. Spinners Gurinder Singh and Abhilash Sharma who wove a web around Mohali batsman as they fell in a heap to be bundled out for 186 runs in 48 overs. Opener Ankit Pursharthy scored 68 runs for Mohali. In the second innings as well Gurinder Singh impressed. He took five wickets for Chandigarh.,while Abhilash grabbed four wickets. Abhilash took a total of seven wickets in the match. Chandigarh won by innings and 59 runs with more than a day to spare. Chandigarh garnered six points including a bonus one.

Jalandhar in control
In the second match played at Burlton Park Jalandhar,Jalandhar took a lead of 280 runs against Amritsar. On resuming their second innings score for 25 for no loss,Amritsar were 384 for 9 in 101 overs at close of third day’s play. Jalandhar had made 448 runs in the first innings. Rohan Marwaha and Aman Bawa added 97 runs for the fourth-wicket before Aman Bawa was snapped by wicket-keeper Abhishek Gupta off Yogesh Kumar for 42 of 62 balls. Thereafter,Rohan Marwaha was joined by Arush Sabarwal and the duo put on 106 runs for the fifth-wicket before Arush Sabarwal was stumped by Abhishek Gupta. Rohan Marwaha batted brilliantly to score 145 runs. He smashed 24 fours during his knock. At close of play,Raman Arora (41) and Jatin Rana (18) were at the crease. Amritsar were leading by 104 runs at close of third day of the match.

Meanwhile,in the third match played at PAU Ludhiana,Patiala were bowled out for 278 runs conceding 45 runs first inning lead to Ludhiana. It was Anil Sihag (4 for 65) and Sukhwinder Singh (4 for 69),who rattled Patiala batting line-up. Ludhiana declared their second innings on 316 for the loss of seven wickets in 78 overs. Nikhil Choudhary scored 101runs off 130 balls. He was associated in 151-run partnership for the third wicket with Anil Sihag scoring 72 runs .
The stand was broken when Nikhil Choudhary was cleaned-up by Beant Singh soon after reaching his century. Before this Sunny Pandey (30) and Akhil Aggarwal (75) had put 98 runs for the first-wicket. Beant Singh bagged a fiver (5 for 40) for his team. With a target of 362 runs set for an outright win,Patiala had scored 19 without loss in 6 overs at close of third days’s play .Jeewanjot (10) and Prabhjot Singh (9) were at the crease when stumps were drawn for the day.
