THE CITY has recorded 16 fresh cases of dengue, thereby taking the total number of cases to 610 this year. According to the Chandigarh health department, fresh cases have been reported from different parts of the city. There has been a sudden rise in dengue since the last two months. But no deaths have been reported so far.
According to statistics, Chandigarh recorded 1,254 dengue cases in 2016 and 966 in 2015.
This year, doctors, too, have tested positive for dengue. Over dozens of doctors from GMSH and PGI tested positive recently, forcing the health department to issue special instructions to PGI to intensify its vector-control management on campus.
The Chandigarh health department is also holding camps in schools to create awareness. The health department is reaching out to parents through the children in creating awareness about keeping the surroundings clean and preventing mosquito-prone conditions.
Till a week ago, the number of swine flu cases had also witnessed an increase, but the cases has stopped now. Six deaths were also reported in the city due to swine flu.
