Chandigarh received 253 per cent more than its usual quota of rainfall for the month of March this year, the meteorological department said on Friday.
The city saw a total of 71.7 mm of rainfall throughout March this year, the weather department said, with 10 mm rainfall being recorded in the city between 8.30 am and late night, Friday.
Between 8.30 am on Thursday and 8.30 am on Friday, around 11 mm of rainfall had been received, the meteorological department further said. An official of the department also said that the sky is expected to remain cloudy on Saturday as well, with intermittent showers expected in the next four days. The sky is expected to remain clear after April 5.
In March last year, Chandigarh had witnessed nil rainfall in the month of March, making it the driest March in 13 years. The highest amount of rainfall received in the month of March was in 2015, when the city witnessed 111.9 mm of precipitation.
The highest maximum temperature in Chandigarh this month was recorded 32.4 degrees Celsius on March 30, with the lowest minimum temperature being recorded on March 7 at 13.2 degrees Celsius.
